With their fried dough and cinnamon sugar coating, churros poppers are the best snack! You probably already have the ingredients for this recipe, and it’s quick and easy to make!

Introduction

I sometimes want the strangest things. I really wanted something with cinnamon the other day, so churros came to mind. So I thought it would be fun to make a poppable version. Why not? 😍

Making these Churros Poppers is so simple and quick! But I have to warn you that one batch of these cinnamon nuggets might not be enough. You really will want to eat the whole batch by yourself! You can easily double or triple the recipe, and if you run out during a game or party, it’s easy to make more!

A cookie scoop helps keep the poppers the same size, but you could also use a rounded measuring spoon. It also helped me roll these while they were still warm!

Take out your stretchy pants because I bet you can’t stop at one or two!

Ingredients

Ingredients for churros poppers including sugar, cinnamon, flour and oil

  • ◯ ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ◯ 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ◯ 1 cup water
  • ◯ 2 ½ tablespoons sugar
  • ◯ ½ teaspoon salt
  • ◯ 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ◯ 1 cup of flour for all purposes
  • ◯ Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl or brown paper bag, combine the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon; set aside.
  2. Heat about 2-1/2 inches deep of oil in a deep-fryer to 375°F.
  3. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, 2-1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Bring the mixture to a boil and then remove it from the heat. Stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
  4. When the dough is cool enough to handle, scoop and lightly roll the dough into balls about the size of walnuts. Fry 3-4 dough balls at a time, being sure not to overcrowd the pan until golden brown. Take it out of the oil and shake or stir in the cinnamon-sugar mixture that you set aside right away. Remove to a plate while you repeat the process with the remaining dough.

Churros Poppers Questions and Answers

➡️ How do churros taste?
Imagine a fluffy doughnut (in this case, a doughnut hole) with a coating of cinnamon and sugar.
➡️ Are churros made without animal products?
Yes, they are! Churros are so simple to make and only require a handful of ingredients – sugar, cinnamon, flour, water, salt, and oil.
➡️ Why are my churros dought/raw inside?
If your churros are coming out raw or doughy, try frying them for a little longer. If they are dark and still raw, then your oil temperature may be too high or you may need to make smaller poppers to ensure they cook all of the way through.
➡️ Can I reheat churros poppers?
You sure can! If you are making these ahead, I suggest not coating them until after they are reheated – they’ll be just as perfect as if you had made them from start to finish without freezing.
TO REHEAT: Bake the churros poppers in a 400°F oven for 3-6 minutes or until heated through.
