My Simple Swedish Meatballs Experience and Recipe

These Swedish meatballs are really good and simple to make! You can have this meal on the table in 30 minutes, and your family will love it!

I promised myself that this year I would make meals as simple as possible from start to finish. I also wanted to add some new recipes to our weekly menus that our kids will actually eat. My daughter and I found Swedish meatballs on a recent trip to IKEA, and WOW! They taste so good! My daughter loved them so much that she asked if we could have them at home sometime. Of course, I said yes!

I was at Walmart not too long ago and saw that Cooked Perfect® had frozen Homestyle Meatballs made with chicken, pork, and beef in the frozen food section. I’ve used their Italian Style Meatballs a lot to make meatball subs and spaghetti and meatballs, but I didn’t want the Italian flavor in this dish, so these were the best choice for Swedish meatballs! So, I got a bag and took them home!

Cooking Swedish Meatballs with Sauce

I followed the directions on the back of the Cooked Perfect Meatballs bag to get this recipe started. I cooked them in the oven for 20 minutes at 350 degrees.

I put 1/4 cup of butter in a saucepan on medium-high heat while the meatballs were cooking in the oven.

After the butter melted, I added 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour and whisked it together with the butter until it turned brown, which made a roux.

I slowly stirred in 4 cups of beef broth while the roux was still a little brown. It thickened up after two minutes of cooking.

When the sauce got a little thicker, I added 3/4 cup of sour cream and whisked it in until it was all mixed in.

Now comes the fun part! Let’s put the cooked meatballs in the hot tub! After I put the meatballs in the sauce, I let them cook for 10 minutes so that the flavors of the meatballs and sauce would mix well.

I wanted to serve them with something that would soak up some of the sauce and go well with the meatballs, so I chose egg noodles.

Ingredients for Swedish Meatballs

  • 1 bag of Cooked Perfect® Frozen Homestyle Meatballs
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 1/3 cup of flour for all purposes
  • Four cups of beef broth
  • Three-fourths of a cup of sour cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: cooked egg noodles

How to

  1. Put the meatballs on a sheet pan and bake them for 20 minutes at 350°.
  2. Put 1/4 cup of butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat while the meatballs are cooking.
  3. Whisk in 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour after the butter has melted. Keep whisking until the mixture thickens and turns brown.
  4. Add 4 cups of beef broth slowly and whisk while cooking for 2 minutes, or until the broth starts to thicken.
  5. After the sauce has thickened, add 3/4 cup of sour cream and mix well.
  6. Add your baked meatballs to the sauce and let them cook for 10 minutes.
  7. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve right away on top of cooked egg noodles.

Delicious Swedish Meatballs Served

These Swedish meatballs were so good that I can’t even tell you how good they were! The meatballs were nice and moist, and they really soaked up the sauce I made. Everyone in my family liked them, and Kate said they were even better than the meatballs we had at IKEA! The best part for me was not having to make the sauce, brown the meatballs, and then cook them all at the same time. These Cooked Perfect® Meatballs were exactly what they said they would be: perfectly cooked and tasty! I could tell that they were made with good ingredients and grilled before being frozen, which made them taste just like they were made at home.
